GET INVOLVED IN OUR TRANSFORM PROJECTS
Transformation happens when we realize we have a purpose in life.
For us, transformation is something that only God can do. Our part is to help build Ohana with people. It is the biggest part of our mission of Connecting, Growing, and Going. We can help or slow down what God wants, but Jesus is the one who changes people.
Puna Covenant's Transform Projects are people-led and problem or need specific. There is no need or desire greater than any other. If you are aware of problems and would like to help us engage within our Puna community, we encourage you to share with us what problems you see and what you think is the solution.
There are many ministries set across Puna and East Hawaii. There are so many ways for us to be involved and to help our neighbors, but we often do not know all of the ways we can assist. Please contact us if you would like to be involved in helping to transform our community to be a place full of God's love and righteousness. As you fill this form out, we encourage you to pray a see how a Transform Project can be initiated.
Just like the famous song writer from 200 years ago was transformed from a very bad and ugly lifestyle, people can be changed from darkness to living in light. That famous song writer's name was John Newton. He was involved, in a serious way, with the slave trade that took people from Africa to different parts of the world in the 1700s. This is what he wrote about his transformation.
"Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound, That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost but now am found, Was blind, but now I see."
In the middle of his life, in 1750, he was the captain of a slave ship. By 1764 he had become an Minister in a church in England and in the 1770s supported the Abolition of Slavery movements in Europe and North American. He wrote booklets and tracts and ultimately penned the poem (part of it is above) which became one of the greatest Christian songs ever written - Amazing Grace - in 1772.
